The players made their way to the city of Emberstrand to watch the spectacles at the Emberflame Festival. When they were watching the magic show of Archibald Stormstrider, they were thrown into the sewers after the wizard corrupted the Emberflame. A dragon made off with the artifact and the city center collapsed. See Emberflame Festival for more info.

The players fought their way out of the sewers, meeting Dirty Hank along the way. After helping him defeat “The Hag” they were free to go topside. After going topside they made their way to the tower of Archibald Stormstrider where they found a magic portal.

The players found a secret basement in the tower of Archibald. In there they found Archibald dead, hanging from a rope. On him they found the Ring of Memories and a farewell letter to his granddaughter, Elsa Stormstrider. After meeting with Burgomaster Seraphina Nightbloom, the players gained her trust after she verified the party was speaking the truth. She did this by casting a Zone of Truth spell on Alfonso Rojas. The players further proved their worth by recovering the Hearthstone that was stolen from Seraphina. After being sent to speak to Corgrim Gebblewibble, the leader of the Mage Guild, they were sent on their way towards the Eldertome repository to find the fabled book Umbro Aperio.

After meeting with Dirty Hank, Brother Jari received an envelope with a weird logo on it. He is hopeful it is a hint as to whom is behind the burning of his village. Dirty Hank took an extra payment of 1000g (200 up front) to find out more. After meeting Hank, the players set off to the Eldertome Repository. On the way they met Thagardush, The Forsaken. He is an Orc that has been living in the region as a hermit for the last 30 years. He seemed like a peaceful guy and he told the players about his worship for Ilmater, the broken god. He helped the players find the secret entrance to the Eldertome Repository. After solving the many puzzles and doing epic combat, the players managed to find the Umbro Aperio.

After returning the Umbro Aperio to the Corgrim Gebblewibble and the mage guild the players were told to wait while the Wizards of the realm try to decypher the book. In the meanwhile, Seraphina Nightbloom explained to the players what powers the Emberflame actually holds. While the players were out traveling, the emperor sent one of his agents, Khelhad Bassir to “help” deal with the missing artifact. Seraphina says not to trust Khelhad, while Khelhad said the same of Seraphina. To establish a base of trust, Khelhad told Brother Jari about the mysterious logo he found on the burned letter. The logo belongs to the Umbral Concord. Khelhad insinuated that Seraphina had something to do with the burning of Jari's village. The players were asked to check out Khelhad's missing men in Bricklewhyte and to ask around if the dragon who made off with the artifact flew over the town. Before undertaking this quest however, the players found out the location of Elsa Stormstrider. They managed to gain this information after beating up Lil' John, a horse rental man with low moral fiber. The players found out that Elsa was kidnapped by a drow named Keldar, the Dark. They tracked down his location to a place called Wave Echo Cave, an old mine with a magical forge that was overrun by Orcs in the past. The players found the cave and are ready to travel down the depths.
